Located in a beautifully converted Federation boarding house overlooking Albert Park, Fitzrovia has been designed by Rebecca Trenorden of Hassell Architects, who was most recently responsible for MoPho Noodle in Yarra Lane, South Yarra.
Originally a boarding house, the original dining room has been maintained as a private dining space with spectacular pressed tin ceilings and Mark Douglas original light fittings designed specifically for the space. Inspired by the Federation era produce stores, Trenoden has married the restaurant’s glass façade and Edwardian interior with an open country-estate kitchen, wood burning fireplaces and walls teeming with fresh produce.
“Fitzrovia was designed to breathe new life into a unique site, and give independence for it to evolve and grow, like any new republic”, Trenoden explains. “The shop front captures an Edwardian terrace in its original form, entering at ground level, like a front garden, climbing the bluestone steps to the terrace and peering through the bay window into the dining room of the house. The hierarchy of display spaces gives the produce a central role, as does the open kitchen which boasts one of the finest views a kitchen could hope for.”
